Eligibility
All Arizona K-12 students, plus pre-K students with a documented qualifying disability. No income requirement.
Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account puts your child's education dollars in your hands. EduQuencher helps you spend them well, with 1:1 tutoring in core subjects and enrichment that keeps learning joyful.
Launched in 2011 for students with disabilities and opened to all K-12 students in 2022, Arizona’s ESA is one of the most established and flexible education savings account programs in the country. Here are the essentials for the 2026-27 school year.
All Arizona K-12 students, plus pre-K students with a documented qualifying disability. No income requirement.
About $7,000/year for general-education students, and roughly $10,000-$40,000+ for students with an IEP or 504 plan.
Run by the Arizona Department of Education. Funds are deposited quarterly into a ClassWallet account.
Tutoring, online classes, curriculum, private school tuition, educational therapies, testing fees, and technology.
Key restriction: students receiving ESA funds cannot enroll in public or charter schools, including part-time, and cannot simultaneously accept a scholarship from an Arizona School Tuition Organization.
Our core service
Most families start with tutoring, and for good reason: it's the fastest way to translate ESA dollars into measurable progress. We match your child with a vetted tutor, set goals in the first session, and send you a short progress note every month.
Math, reading, writing, science, and study skills with a consistent tutor who builds a plan around your child’s goals and pace.
Reading fluency, dyslexia-aware literacy coaching, and executive-function support for learners with an IEP or 504 plan.
SAT, ACT, AP, and honors-level coaching, plus acceleration for gifted learners who need more challenge than grade level.
Weekly core-subject instruction, progress reporting, and portfolio-friendly records for families teaching at home.
Beyond the core
Once core academics are covered, enrichment is where ESA funds really shine. Small-group classes give your child a cohort, a challenge, and something to be excited about each week.
Robotics, Python, game design, and hands-on science labs that turn curiosity into projects.
Creative writing workshops, essay labs, public speaking, and small-group debate clubs.
Illustration, animation, theater, and instrument coaching taught by working artists.
Financial literacy, world languages, entrepreneurship, and social-confidence groups.
ESA awards are tied to the state’s per-pupil funding formula and vary by grade level, disability classification, and district of residence. Funds arrive quarterly in ClassWallet, and unused dollars roll over while your student stays enrolled.
Amounts are estimates for 2026-27. Confirm your award with the Arizona Department of Education ESA team.
How to Apply
Any Arizona K-12 resident qualifies. Students receiving ESA funds must withdraw from public and charter schools, including part-time enrollment.
Submit the application at esaportal.azed.gov with proof of Arizona residency, your child’s birth certificate, and IEP or 504 documentation if applicable.
Processing typically takes about 4-6 weeks. Once approved, you’ll sign the ESA contract with the Arizona Department of Education.
Your quarterly award is deposited into ClassWallet, the platform used for direct purchases, vendor payments, and reimbursements.
Choose your tutoring schedule and enrichment classes, then pay with ESA funds. We provide itemized invoices and attendance records for your files.
Arizona students with eligible Empowerment Scholarship Account funding may use approved ESA funds for qualifying educational expenses. Eligibility, funding, and approved expenses are determined by the Arizona Department of Education.
