Overview
Guide students through essay writing, grammar fundamentals, and SAT/ACT prep.
We are seeking an experienced English Writing Instructor to support students at the middle school, high school, and early college levels. You will help learners develop clear, confident writing across a range of formats — from academic essays to personal statements.
This is a fully remote, contract role with flexible hours. Ideal candidates bring a love of language, a structured teaching style, and proven results helping students improve their writing scores and academic performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Communications, Education, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching or tutoring writing skills
- Deep familiarity with essay structure, grammar, and academic writing conventions
- Experience preparing students for standardised tests (SAT, ACT, AP English)
- Ability to provide detailed written feedback on student drafts in a timely manner
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in English or Creative Writing
- College application essay coaching experience
- Knowledge of MLA, APA, and Chicago citation styles
- Experience working with ESL students
Responsibilities
- Deliver one-on-one or small-group writing sessions via video conference
- Review and annotate student essays with constructive, actionable feedback
- Develop personalised lesson plans targeting each student's weakest writing areas
- Guide students through the brainstorming, drafting, and revision process
- Prepare students for timed writing sections of standardised exams
- Log session summaries and progress notes in the EduQuencher platform
